Bob has practiced the Dharma in the Vipassana/Theravada tradition for twenty-two years. He was a civil rights-human rights attorney for twenty-five years, specializing in defending people against the death penalty. Bob currently teaches the Dharma, leads two Sanghas, and leads day-long and weekend retreats in the San Diego area, having been trained in Spirit Rock Meditation Center’s Community Dharma Leader Program. Bob is a DVA co-founder and president. | |
Ven. Bhante Sathi is a highly respected Sri Lankan monk who lives in Mankato, Minnesota, USA, where he is the Chapter Leader for DVA’s Minnesota, USA Chapter. Bhante is a member of the Dharma Voices for Animals Board of Directors and co-coordinator of the DVA SRi Lanka Project. Bhante teaches Buddhist retreats around the world in the Theravada tradition. | |
Ashwani Garg, MD is a family physician in Lincolnwood, IL. He completed a degree in biomedical engineering and medical school from Northwestern University, after which he attended family medicine residency at Hinsdale Hospital. He as been in medical practice for over 17 years and was inspired by the movie “Forks over Knives” and CNN’s “The Last Heart Attack” to adopt a plant-based diet and to work with his patients on healthy lifestyle changes including a whole food plant-based diet. He is now board-certified in lifestyle medicine in addition to having completed a certificate in plant-based nutrition, and has adopted an integrative approach to his medical care for all ages, birth and up, which includes a plant-based diet, fitness and mindfulness. He is a Buddhist having taken his vows in the Theravada tradition, and also practices in the Zen tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. His Dharma name is “Virajicitta” or “Purified mind”. He is also father to twin boys. |
